Vincenzo Scamozzi

Vincenzo Scamozzi (Vicenza 1552-Venice 1616) was an architect and writer of treatises. He was greatly influenced by the architecture of Palladio, whose Teatro Olimpico he completed, and he built the fragment of Palazzo Porto-Breganze in Piazza Castello. Following the Palladian style, he built the Rocca Pisana at Lonigo (1576), the Villa Dondi dell'Orologio at Mandria (1597), the theatre of Vespasiano Gonzaga at Sabbioneta (1588), the doors of Palmanova. At Vicenza he was responsible for the Palazzo Trissino in Corso Palladio, now Municipal buildings, and Palazzo Trissino in Via Cesare Battisti, which is now the Cassa di Risparmio.
He wrote the six-volume treatise "The Idea of Universal Architecture" (Venice, 1615), in which he brought together the results of research and studies carried out during his numerous trips in Italy and Europe.
