City Library Bertoliana

The Bertoliana Library in the ancient convent of the Somaschi Fathers is a rich heritage, the most important in the province of Vicenza and one of the most important in the whole Veneto.
The ancient collection has 3,564 manuscripts of which some miniatures of the 14th and 15th centuries, 850 incunabola, and various particularly rare editions such as a "Divine Comedy" of 1395, the first Vicenza incunabulum, and Petrarch's "Canzoniere" of 1474.
The archive collection has the communal historical archive known as "Archivio Torre", archives of the old hospitals and of the noble Vicenza families.
The epistolary collection of mainly great Vicenza figures is also important, with people like Zanella, Fogazzaro, Lampertico and Piovene.
The library has collections and important repertories of the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly historical-humanistic, and modern collections of the same kind, without however neglecting technical and scientific works too. There is also the "Fondo Gonzati" which constantly buys new works by authors from Vicenza and on subjects associated with Vicenza.
