Convent of Santi Filippo e Giacomo
now the City Library Bertoliana
The convent, built by the Simaschi Fathers between 1640 and 1652, was designed by Antonio Pizzocaro.
The severe view towards Contrà Riale is reminiscent of the austere climate of ideals of the Counter-Reformation.
Inside, the hanging gardens below the cloister are due to the two different levels of Corso Palladio and Contrà Riale.
This was a college until 1772, the year when the order was suppressed.
Since 1908 the complex has housed the City Library Bertoliana, which was transferred here from its ancient place on Monte di Pietà.
