Palazzo Da Monte
now Migliorini
In front of the Dominican convent of Santa Corona stands the elegant Palazzo Da Monte. Built between 1550 and 1554, it is now universally attributed to Palladio, also on the strength of various signed designs. However, the planning of the palazzo goes back to before, around 1540 or 1541, when the little more than 30-year-old Andrea was analysing and imitating the architectural projects of Sebastiano Serlio. The facade is divided into two horizontal sections: the first featuring radiating ashlar-work around the entrance arch; the second by a central Serlian window, two aedicules and four pairs of pilasters. The inscription "Baptista De Monte Sanctifilius A. MDLXXXI" can be read going from one floor to the other, and the date in all probability indicates the final conclusion of work the year following Palladio's death.
