Palazzo Da Schio

now Vaccari Lioy

Count Bernardo Schio started renovation work on his palazzo beyond the Pusterla Bridge in 1560. The facade, not yet completed in 1565, was probably completed according to Palladio's design only in 1566. Palladian paternity is universally recognised now. The two-storey building has rustic ashlar-work on the lower floor, and a radiating entrance arch and windows illuminating the cellars. The "piano nobile" has four Corinthian half-columns and three windows crowned by a triangular front. The interiors have been completely changed by restoration work in the course of the centuries. An attractive garden stretches out behind as far as the bank of the Bacchiglione.
