Piazza Castello
Piazza Castello stretches from the gate of the same name towards Corso Palladio.
Here in this area, now rectified after the construction of the palazzi, there once stood the Castle of Ezzelino, reinforced by the Scaligerians in 1343.
There are important palazzi on the piazza: opposite, to the left of Corso Andrea Palladio, there is Palazzo Thiene Bonin Longare, begun by Palladio; on the right, facing the piazza, Palazzo Piovini by Antonio Pizzocaro (1656-58), now a department store. On the south flank, the unfinished Palazzo Porto Breganze, now Telecom Italia, built by Vincenzo Scamozzi after a design by Palladio.
