Ponte degli Angeli

Ponte degli Angeli, so called after the name of an ancient little church that once stood here, dates back to 1889. It replaced the ancient Roman bridge (1st century AD) which connected the eastern districts to the centre of Vicenza, and which enabled one to cross the Bacchiglione and proceed down Via Postumia towards the north-east (Via Quattro Novembre - Viale Trieste).
Nothing remains of the ancient bridge, the only written and graphic testimony being what Palladio gives in "Four Books of Architecture".
