Area of the Berga Theatre
The Berga Roman Theatre from the mid-1st century AD stood in an extra-urban area south-east of Vicenza and connected to the centre of the city by the Ponte di San Paolo.
Little remains of the original structure; the remains of the "cavea" and walls were re-utilised at the time to build palazzi which stand on the present block of the same name. An 18th century spinning factory occupies the area of the "scena". After all these centuries nothing of the ancient group has remained, and the present buildings just follow the original layout. In the 19th century, during excavations in the area, statues and elements of sculptured decoration were found, and are now to be found in the Archeological museum of Santa Corona.
