Villa Marcello-Curti

Villa Marcello-Curti, dating back to the early 40s of the 16th century, is an early work by Andrea Palladio, even if it is not included in the projects published in his "Four Books of Architecture". There is however a design by the architect preserved in Great Britain which, for all its differences, definitely refers to this building. This building is of great importance for a better understanding of Palladio's stylistic development and to enable us to grasp certain similarities with other country dwellings like Villa Caldogno Nordera, at Caldogno, or Villa Saraceno, now "The Landmark Trust", at Finale di Agugliaro. The facade, with three central fornices, has eight Ionic order pilasters placed on top of a plinth, and four aedicules. The three central inter-columns are crowned by a triangular pediment. The interiors, except for the loggia and the central cross-vaulted hall, have been completely changed (for the worse) in the course of the centuries.
