The Church of St Daniel already existed in the second half of the 13th century. It was run by the Franciscans Minor who had arrived in Lonigo before 1253.
In 1480 it was consecrated, probably after further building work.
In 1810 the religious life of St Daniel was interrupted by the application of the Napoleonic decree of suppression of religious orders. The church became a kind of shed for agricultural equipment and the convent was devastated, and then demolished.
In 1891 restoration work began and the religious community returned. Further restoration work was completed in 1929-31.
In 1916 the Collegio Serafico moved in, later named Probandato Antoniano. In 1925 the new college building was inaugurated, and further enlarged in the 50s.
The church contains a cycle of frescoes by Adolfo Mattielli (1927-31) depicting scenes connected with the Franciscan Order. A short distance from the entrance is the tombstone of the Servant of God, Father Adriano Osmolowski.
The church still belongs to the Franciscan Minor Friars, who live in the adjacent convent.
