Beato Claudio Granzotto

Claudio Granzotto was born at Santa Lucia di Piave (Treviso) on 23 August, 1900. In 1929 he obtained his Diploma in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice. In 1933 he entered the order of Minor Friars. He died - almost a saint - on 15 August, 1947, as the Madonna had announced that he would. He was sanctified by John Paul II on 20 November, 1994, and was buried beside the Grotto of Lourdes.
The sanctity of Fra Claudio was characterised by a boundless love of God, which made his life a splendid dwelling for Him; his life was as his prayers; he showed exquisite charity towards everyone, especially when it came to the poor and sick; he had extraordinary and sweet humility; a profound and filial devotion to the Immaculate Mother.
He united the sanctity of his life with an important career as a sculptor, the inspiration for which came from his prayers and meditation.
