Building work on the Church of the Filippini started in 1730 on what was originally the site of the Jesuits' Church of Jesus (1602-1718). Two architects were involved: the Venetian Giorgio Massari, who was responsible for the apse and the floor plan between 1730 (the laying of the first stone) and 1747; and the Vicenza-born Antonio Piovene, who designed the nave and facade (1824), the latter based on an interpretation of Ottone Calderari's project for the Church of the Scalzi.
The choir is decorated with stuccoes by Massari, an important example of rococo in Vicenza. Along the walls of the nave there are late 18th century wooden statues in niches of the four Evangelists, and a statue of the Redeemer attributed to Orazio Marinali. The church is often used for concerts: and inside you can still see two precious organs by Giovanni Battista Lorenzi (1806-1883).
The church and the rooms next to it contain, among other things, altarpieces by Pietro Pala ("San Filippo Neri with the Virgin on her Throne" of 1829), Alessandro Maganza ("Motherhood"), Francesco Solimena ("St Paul and Mary Magdalene").
