Church of San Gaetano Thiene

The Church of San Gaetano da Thiene was built between 1721 and 1730 by the Paduan Girolamo Frigimelica in memory of the Vicenza-born saint and founder of the Chierici Regolari (Teatini Fathers), who died and was buried in Naples.
The Teatini left the nearby Church of St Stephen to officiate in the new church until 1806.
The church was almost completely destroyed in a disastrous air raid in May 1944, but was rebuilt and handed back to the Teatini in 1948.
Some of the statues of the facade are by the hand of Giacomo Cassetti.
Inside the church there is an interesting altarpiece by Francesco Solimena, "The Apotheosis of San Gaetano".
The attached convent of the Teatini Fathers, an interesting construction of the 18th century, now houses Ministry of Finance offices.
