Church of Saints Philip and James
The Church of St James was once one of the seven chapels of the town. The Somaschi Fathers had it rebuilt between 1601 and 1602 by Monsignor Giovanni Giacomo Montecchio, and it was completed in 1667 with the Latin cross, when the Somaschis also decided to build the cloister. Montecchio changed things round and created the facade and interior in the style of Scamozzi.
The church is now de-consecrated and belongs to the town council, which uses it for exhibitions.
The paintings are extremely interesting: there are paintings by the school of Maganza ("Crucifixion of St Philip", "Martyrdom of St James", and others), by Antonio Fiumani ("Pentecost") and Sante Prunati ("Samson", "Isaac", and others). Some works by Francesco Maffei are now kept in the Museo Civico.
Other decorations are by the hand of Lorenzo Pasinelli, Sante Prunate, Bartolomeo Cittadella, Costantino Pasqualotto, Giulio Carpioni, and Antonio de' Pieri.
