Church of St George

The Church of St George dates back to the 10th century and is probably of Longobard origin, given its dedication to that warrior saint. It stands below Monte Berico, slightly higher than Via Fusinato. There was also a leper-house here once.
It suffered considerable damage during the war, and in the early 50s was restored with original material: the roof was reconstructed and also part of the external walls.
The facade is plain, without decorations, with an arched door and "oeil-de-boeuf" round window.
The polygonal apse is the most interesting part of the building, bearing testimony to the influence of Ravenna on Vicenza territory.
Inside the church there is an altarpiece attributed to Alessandro Maganza, "Apparition of the Virgin to Vincenza Masini on Monte Berico" during the plague epidemic.
