Church of Santa Maria in Foro

or dei Servi

The Church of Santa Maria in Foro gets its name from the religious members of the Order of the Servants of Mary, who settled here at the beginning of the 15th century. They began to build the church in 1407 in a Romanesque-Gothic form. Later, in 1490, the building was enlarged and in 1531 the portal was added, the work of Gerolamo Pittoni and Giovanni da Porlezza.
The facade was re-built in 1700 with sculptures by Orazio Marinali and Giovanni Calvi.
Inside there are still some paintings of interest: "Madonna with Child between the saints Rocco and Sebastian" is a Benedetto Montagna painting from 1533, and comes from the Church of San Rocco, "The Annunciation" with the saints Anthony, Nicholas, Catherine and Lucia" by Alessandro Maganza, and "The Virgin with the saints Bernardino da Siena, Agatha, Philip Benizi and Catherine" by Giambattista Maganza the Younger.
