Oratory of the Boccalotti

The Oratory of the Boccalotti dates back to 1414. This small building was built by the confraternity of the Boccalotti as a place for meetings. The Boccalotti were artisan makers of terracotta cups. The master craftsman Zanino dei Boccali had a workshop for very refined clay decoration, and it is probably this sort of decoration that we find on the main door, and the decoration on the nearby cloister of St Peter must be similar.
The upper part of the facade was covered in frescoes, now lost, by a pupil of Giovan Battista Maganza, depicting the members of the confraternity in devotion of the Virgin.
Inside there is a 15th statue by Nicolò da Venezia depicting the "Virgin with Child".
