Oratory of San Nicola

The Oratory of San Nicola owes its name to the confraternity dedicated to the worship of San Nicola da Tolentino which settled in the area towards the end of the 15th century. A little oratory was built at the beginning of the 16th century and was enlarged in various stages during the following century. The final operation dates back to 1676 when the interior was completed and the facade was built on the plan of Carlo Bottiron.
Inside there is a precious artistic legacy, essential documents for the history of 17th century Veneto art. Pride of place must go to the "Trinity" on the high altar, a masterpiece by Francesco Maffei. There are also paintings by Giulio Carpioni, Antonio Zanchi and Giovanni Cozza, and other works by Maffei telling the story of St Nicola.
The stuccoed ceiling executed between 1677 and 1678 by Rinaldo Viseto is also extremely interesting.
