Sacred Itineraries for the Third Millennium
The religious and cultural history of Vicenza from its origins to the threshold of the new millennium can be read through its main places of worship, which are the document and testimony of a faith profoundly felt, of a spiritual development, a change of way of living and thinking of a community.
The Diocesan Office for the Arts is responsible for an initiative which aims to describe the main stages of this and illustrate some of the most important churches, offering the pilgrim and visitor a key to enter the spiritual meaning of history and art when this is born and develops in a context of faith.
The Sacred Itineraries project for the Third Millennium is based on a chronological and thematic criterion, and is divided into four routes:
Each of the churches in this first phase of the project is illustrated in a leaflet, available inside each church, and apart from giving a historical profile and brief guide offers liturgical and thematic explanations of their religious significance. Furthermore, with the help of the Guide Association and the Centro Turistico Giovanile (Youth Tourist Centre), a reception system has been created to get the best out of the visits and improve opening times. The initiative is supported by the Vicenza city council, the Regione Veneto, and the Tourist Promotion Office of Vicenza.
