The Worship of Mary in Vicenza

The Virgin has been a central figure in Vicenza's religious life probably from the 13th century, when the Begging Orders, particularly sensitive to their Marian mission, contributed to spreading a cult which was so intimately connected to the Mystery of the Incarnation of Christ. It is however the birth of the Sanctuary of Monte Berico and the successive arrival of the Servants of Mary that caused that extraordinary devotional flowering which draws every year millions of the Faithful. The Madonna of Monte Berico, Patron saint of Vicenza, protects her elected from above, and these in the course of the centuries have dedicated to her other holy places where she can be worshipped, such as the extraordinary artistic and devotional heritage of the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Miracoli of Lonigo, the Sanctuary of the Salus Infirmorum of Scaldaferro, and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Pieve of Chiampo.
